Cartmel, Carlisle & Musselburgh

We began another four days in a row at Cartmel on Wednesday and it was not really a success. Firstly I got the van stuck in the mud. Fortunately we were able to ring Gary and Jamie was summoned to pull me out with a tractor. Not a good start.

The business was pitiful and the results weren’t much better. Three meetings in five days in the current financial climate was a bridge too far and we came off rather deflated.

On Thursday evening we were Carlisle bound for Steak evening. We got off to a flyer when Lady Celia at 33-1 won the opener. The next two jollies won to stop us in our tracks but then Naturalia copped at 14-1 for owner Les Chandler of Hawick, one of our point to point colleagues. A good few quid was taken out of the ring but it was a good winner for us.

The novice stakes looked like a match and we almost got a dream result with Aviemore at 33-1. Sadly Hiya our smallest winner at 6/4 got up. The odds on jolly was third.

Kode Secret at 7/4 didn’t forget how to win on the penultimate and it all hinged on the lucky last. We threw two and a half and got the wages with Hot Team at 11/2.

On Friday, it was Carlisle again in the afternoon for a Noughties DJ set after races. It was lovely to see many of our regulars in attendance and the sun was shining so happy days.

Disco dancing at Carlisle on Friday 💃🏻

The only thing missing that would’ve been good was a commentary for the Oaks which was shown on the big screen but with no sound.

We had a good 4-2 winning day and went into the weekend with our tails wagging. We chose Musselburgh over Hexham on Saturday as this was one of the days we had in mind when we purchased the pitches.

It was another sunny day and there was a big crowd. Business was good but unfortunately the results were stinking. Four favourites and basically three second bests duly obliged and our winning couple of days came to a shuddering halt.

It was such a shame as the results everywhere else over the weekend were bookie friendly 🙄.

We decided to drown our sorrows yesterday and went out at 2pm and didn’t roll home until nearly midnight. 🙈 we were out with the two E’s – Eric and Emma and a good day was had by all. 🍻

We’ve a couple of days off now until Thursday and then we are on-course for five days in a row again. Blog to follow. Watch this space.
